Michael Portantiere is now in the third decade of his career as a theatrical journalist and photographer. His photos have been published in THE NEW YORK TIMES, the DAILY NEWS, and many other print and online publications. He was Editor in Chief of TheaterMania.com for seven years and is well known for his "Follow Spot" columns and photo features on the popular website BroadwayStars.com, as well as for his photos, interviews and reviews for AfterElton.com. Among Michael's other credits, he served as Managing Editor of InTHEATER magazine and Regional Editor of BACK STAGE, and he is currently collaborating with Gerard Alessandrini on a book that will celebrate the long-run hit FORBIDDEN BROADWAY, to be published in 2009. Michael has written notes for such cast albums as LITTLE ME (with Faith Prince and Martin Short), THE MOST HAPPY FELLA (with Louis Quilico and Emily Loesser), and SWEENEY TODD (the New York Philharmonic recording with George Hearn, Patti LuPone, Neil Patrick Harris, and Audra McDonald). He holds a Masters in Theater Education from New York University, and he teaches a course in Theater Criticism at his undergraduate alma mater, Wagner College.
